The song that was never mentioned in a film was called “Erased.” If you guys heard of the songs/unused tracks from the Burton/Elfman CD box set on Youtube – then you’re in luck. 😉
This unused song was actually Victor Van Dort’s song – about his feelings toward his beautiful Victoria Everglot, but sadly replaced by a snooty man – all because of the greedy, miserable aristocrats who changed the engagement for money. It was actually sung by Danny Elfman himself (yes, the “Danny Elfman,” the same dude who was the voice of Bonejangles.)
Why it was cut? Well, according to Mental Floss, the article “12 Lively Facts About Corpse Bride, “ explained about why it was cut;
“ Elfman says that it was omitted in order to reduce the
film’s runtime.
Apparently, “Erased” landed on the cutting room floor right before Depp
began recording his lines—“probably much to his relief,” Elfman
quipped.“
Well, ironically, Johnny Depp did some singing when he did the role in a next/later Burton film, “Sweeney Todd.”
Oh with his unused song, I wished it would happen in a movie. I would love it, and it would be my top fave along with “Remains of the Day.”
Since Disney’s “Special Edition” movies did the “never-before-seen” scenes for reusing the songs, such as “Human Again”… and the reused scene from the uncut in “The Iron Giant” (since the re-release in a theatre), I hope someday that CB will do a spin-off/short film of "Erased” in the future.
//This is where shit just got personal. I love this. When Victor is faced upon a threat he is nervous and just seem to flee from his problems. But when it gets to those he loves he is willing to do whatever it takes. His fear of losing his loved one’s makes him brave. It awakes the man(machoface) in him. This reminds me of Edward Scissorhands. Edward does all he can to not hurt anyone. And in his fight with Jim he tries not to hurt him. But then Jim hurts Kim, that’s what makes Edward furious. And that’s when he kills Jim//
Awesome, and I agree.
Sure, Victor VD may be a nervous wreck, but I don’t believe that he’s a coward. In the beginning, he wanted to be with Victoria Everglot because he has deep feelings with her. But since the rehearsal incident, Victor regretted himself because he thought a beautiful, lovely girl like Victoria wouldn’t marry a clumsy “ninny” like him.
Later on, when Mayhew said that Victoria is going to marry Lord Barkis because of the Everglots changed their minds about engagement (dear lord, I can’t believe that clever Victoria has bad parents who would do something stupid, compared to Matilda Wormwood’s and Jacob’s (from Miss Peregrine)), Victor was heartbroken. He was feeling “too late” to win Victoria’s love because he knew it that a ninny himself can’t be with her.
There’s a deleted song that shows Victor’s feelings of Victoria, but felt “erased” because of the replacement.
At the ending, when Emily showed to her groom (Victor) that Victoria’s here, after she decided to deny the wedding – Victor was surprised. He realized that Victoria does care for him because she loves him.
Seriously, this is why I love Victor VD while I love V+V even more. Victor VD is never a ninny. He’s never a wimp. And he’s never a loser. That’s why his name “Victor” means “winner” in Latin (so as the name “Vincent” ).No matter what, Victor will always be a winner. 😉
